Biscuits

Ingredients

2 c flour
1 T baking powder
1 t salt
1 T sugar
1/3 c shortening
1 c milk

1. Preheat oven to 425ยบ

2. In a large bowl; sift flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in shortening (I use my fingers, works just as well) until mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually stir in milk until dough pulls away from sides of the bowl (again I used my hands, but this is very messy and sticky).

3. Turn dough out onto floured surface; pat or roll out dough to 1 inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits, or a large juice glass coated in flour. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet (if you want your biscuits to rise more than mine did, be sure to put the biscuits side by side, right up against each other).

4. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until edges start to brown.

Makes about 6 to 12 biscuits depending on the size you cut them.

They are delicious with sausage gravy!
